Good to know

Study, visas and your future

Study may provide a pathway to other visas for some people, but it is never automatic. Eligibility depends on the visa and migration rules that apply at the time and on your circumstances.

Who does what

So you know what to expect from us, and who makes each decision.

  • Migration advice Visa advice is provided by a registered migration agent, based on current law and your circumstances.
  • Education guidance We help you compare study options. Admission decisions are made by each education provider.
  • Skills assessments We explain how skills assessments work. Assessments are decided by the relevant assessing authority.
  • Government decisions Visa decisions are made by the Department of Home Affairs. No adviser can guarantee an outcome.
Do I need to choose a course before applying for a student visa?

Yes. A student visa application generally requires a Confirmation of Enrolment in a registered course, so the course and provider are chosen first.

Can studying in Australia lead to permanent residence?

Study may provide a pathway to other visas for some people, but it does not lead to permanent residence by itself. Eligibility depends on current visa and migration rules, your occupation, experience and other circumstances.

Do you choose the course for me?

We help you compare options and understand how each fits your goals and visa requirements. The final choice is yours, and admission decisions are made by the education provider.

Will a particular course help me get a visa after I graduate?

No course guarantees a future visa. Some courses may provide a pathway, subject to the rules that apply when you apply and your circumstances, so we recommend discussing your plans before you enrol.

Can I study an English course before my main course?

Many providers offer English courses before a vocational or university course, sometimes packaged together. Whether this suits you depends on your English level and the requirements of your main course and visa.

What is the Job Ready Program?

A skills assessment program run by Trades Recognition Australia for some international graduates of Australian vocational qualifications in eligible trade occupations. TRA sets the eligibility rules and makes the assessment decisions, so check the official Job Ready Program FAQs for current details.
